Hi!
My Name is Morgan Smith. I’m a fourth-year student at Grinnell College studying History in Grinnell, Iowa. I’m passionate about archival science, LGBTQIA+ history, rural studies, public history, digital humanities, the history of education, and how sometimes, they all happen to overlap beautifully.
I’ve had incredible opportunities to weave my historical background into pretty much everything I do, bringing historical perspectives into library science, community organizing, peer mentoring, and events management. I’ve worked as a student coordinator at the Stonewall Cultural Center at Grinnell College, specializing in local LGBTQ+ history and library management, while developing experience with copy cataloging, community-guided acquisitions, and events management.
I’ve conducted research on LGBTQ+ history, focusing on local queer history while developing skills and experience in oral history, public history, and community-driven archives. Over the past year, I’ve developed an exhibition on local LGBTQ+ history and worked as a Vivero Digital Humanities Fellow, learning valuable skills and frameworks for conducting public-facing scholarship, immersive storytelling, and project management.
